CBI Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Project

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟

We are thrilled to announce that Fresh Produce Consortium – Kenya (FPC-K) has signed a commitment to collaborate with the CBI WEE Project in Kenya as of June 20, 2024!

The WEE Project in Kenya (2021-2026) aims to hashtag#empower women entrepreneurs by addressing gender-specific barriers in international trade. Women face challenges like complex regulatory procedures, lack of financial capital, and gender-blind support services, limiting their participation in cross-border trade.

Having held a Leadership Alignment Workshop on April 23, 2024, at Radisson Blu Nairobi with public and private trade support institutions, these were the outcomes:

i) Commitment from Trade Support Institutions (TSIs) to enhance gender-responsive services.

ii)Recognition of the low participation of women in exports and the need for tailored support.

iii) Emphasis on financial institutions addressing the needs of women-led enterprises.

iv) Promotion of women leadership in the export sector and creating a supportive environment.

v)Support for MSMEs and leveraging emerging technologies for market access improvement.

The workshop objectives focused on recognizing the specific support needed by women exporters, acknowledging their significant economic contribution, and pushing for increased exports from women-owned enterprises. We aim to foster a supportive ecosystem and commit TSIs to work closely with the project to ensure sustainable change.

Present at the signing ceremony was the CEO for FPC-K, Mr. Okisegere Ojepat and his team together with the CBI WEE Project’s Institutional Consultant Ms. Rose Ronoh. We are glad that FPC-K has come on board and together, we hope to pave the way for more women entrepreneurs to thrive in international markets!
