Exploring Gender Lens Investing: A Key to Advancing Equality

Gender Lens Investing (GLI) is emerging as a transformative approach within the impact investment sector. While there isn’t a universal definition yet, the The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) describes GLI as “a strategy or approach to investing that takes into consideration gender-based factors across the investment process to advance gender equality and better inform investment decisions.”

Here’s a brief overview of the concept:

🔹 Impact: Focuses on the measurable changes investments can make in society and the environment, aiming for sustainable development and positive social progress.

🔹 Gender Lens: Involves understanding how power, privilege, and bias operate in various contexts. It examines the relationships between different gendered groups, their access to resources, and their constraints.

🔹 Investment: Traditionally about financial returns, but impact investing integrates social and environmental outcomes alongside financial goals.

Gender Lens Investing can be applied with or without impact intention. However, when combined with impact goals, it becomes a powerful tool for achieving both gender equality and positive social impact.
